Nissan today took sole possession of the crown for least-expensive new car you can buy in America by announcing a $10,990 sticker price plus shipping for the base model of its nicely redesigned 2012 Versa sedan that was unveiled in April in New York.

Nissan and Hyundai formerly dueled for that distinction with a special model of the old Versa four-door sedan at $9,990 plus shipping vs. a bare-bones Accent at $9,985 (but which was a three-door hatchback coupe).

But Hyundai left the field to Nissan with its just-out redesigned Accent. Hyundai says it no longer wanted to compete in the lowest-end segment, pricing the cheapest new Accent at $12,445 - and not pushing that one (try to find it on Hyundai's consumer site).

While raising the price a bit, Nissan also equipped the new low-end Versa sedan with amenities that were extra on the old one, such as air conditioning. It comes with a five-speed manual, but if gas mileage is your goal, your should opt for the CVT automatic with its slightly higher estimated 33 mpg rating for combined city/highway driving.

The new sedan is due at dealers in August. The separate five-door hatchback version of the Versa gets only minor tweaks for 2012 and goes on sale next week, with pricing still TBA.

The CVT allows continuous change of the transmission gear ratio by connecting the two pulleys with a metallic belt and changing their diameter by using hydraulic pressure. This new CVT design adds an auxiliary gearbox using planetary gearing, helping enhance efficiency. Due to budget cuts, CMS had expected to reduce the number of middle school sports offered in previous years. The Hendrick sponsorship, combined with a contribution from an unidentified donor, provides the remaining amount necessary to fund the full lineup of 13 sports at all 32 middle schools for more than 6,500 students participating in athletics across the district.

Recognizing the incongruity, 10 years ago, General Motors implemented the Women's Retail Initiative, which has grown to become the Women's Retail Network (WRN).  As many network members will attest, being part of a group is invigorating, rewarding and valuable.

As the sole automaker with a process to automobile news develop and attract women dealers, GM has realized gains from its commitment.  In 2001, about 2.6 percent of GM dealers were women.  Today, the number of GM women dealers has grown to 4.2 percent.

Quite simply, the Mission of the WRN is to attract more women into GM retail organizations as dealer operators, general managers and employees – as well as make the dealership environment more inviting to female customers.  This year, GM adds a scholarship program as another way to attract and grow the number of women in automotive retail careers.

FALKEN Porsche secures fastest lap at Grenzlandrennen VLN race

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 01, 2011 – Against a very strong field, the FALKEN Motorsports team once again proved its ability in the 34th RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen, part of the VLN Endurance Racing Championship. FALKEN's Porsche 997 GT3 R ultimately achieved the fastest overall lap time of 8:21.781 minutes and finished eighth overall.

159 starters lined up for the Grenzlandrennen including many of the strongest runners from the recent Nürburgring 24 Hour Race. Pilots Sebastian Asch and Peter Dumbreck both pushed the Porsche to the limit and after five pit stops the FALKEN car crossed the finish line in eighth place overall in what was only the team's third VLN competition.

Taking part in the race for tyre testing purposes, the FALKEN Porsche had already braved a rain-drenched practice and qualifying to deliver the second-fastest lap time at 9:35.224 minutes and thus start in the first group. "Although this was our first time using the new wet tyres, everything went very well in the morning," said FALKEN driver Sebastian Asch. "It is great that we don't have to worry even when dealing with all-new development tyres – the baseline quality is always excellent and the vehicle handles well regardless of the surface variations."

The 480bhp Porsche started on intermediates from the pits, having undergone a drive shaft replacement immediately before the VLN race. After t 2011 Dodge Durango R / T he opening lap, the car was back in the pit lane as team chief Sven Schnabl's crew decided to go with slicks on a drying track. Then FALKEN stepped up the pace. After nine laps and the third pit stop the Infiniti m hybird Japanese tyre manufacturer's team had advanced from 21st position up to ninth place. On the tenth lap the Grenzlandrennen was interrupted by a crash involving three vehicles at the "Tiergarten" section of the circuit.

In ninth at restart, the FALKEN team performed three more fast laps before coming in for further pit stop. Back on the track, Sebastian Asch und Peter Dumbreck continued to push their blue and turquoise Porsche hard before a further stoppage following a six-car bmw M5 specification pileup at the "Bergwerk" section. Despite two restarts, the seventh VLN race will count toward the championship.

"Without our planned stops, we would be among the top three," added Sebastian Asch summing up the successful racing and test mission. "Despite stopping in the pits three times we still made eighth place overall. Our thorough testing means that we will have another really good tyre for next season, which will allow us to apply more pressure on our competit goverment technology ors."
